Astrology

For thousands of years, astronomers/astrologers and those practicing a variety of other notable vocations, observed the relationships between planetary movement above and the earthy affairs playing out below. Many of us are familiar with the simple yet profound statement:

As above, so below.

Three main practices of astrology explore this relationship between the heavens above and the individual and collective experiences below:

Natal chart delineations: The natal chart examines the planetary location at the moment of birth of an individual, often called a native. Symbolism and themes expressed for the native’s lifetime as a whole as well as psychological and character traits, topics of ease and challenge, and overall biography are explored.

Personal transit delineations: The present location of the planets and how they interact with the natal birth chart can speak of themes and experiences the native is presently working with. Transits can be examined for past, present, and future timings.

World transit delineations: Often called “mundane astrology,” world transits speak of collective experiences and events, based on the present location of the planets from the perspective of the Earth.

The zodiacal sign (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, etc) the planets are located in, as well as the relative angle they hold to one another (example, 0, 45, 90, 180) at any given moment are two essential observations that are interpreted. This is true for natal charts as well as personal and world transits.

“Our choices, not the stars, direct our lives. The sky, like a mirror, reflects our internal and external state, but does not cause that state to exist. The planets do not compel us, but can draw our attention to the true sources of our own internal compulsions.”

My approach

Astrology is a beautiful symbolic language with the ability to communicate the timing of key life experiences as well as describe the energetic nature (expansion, contraction, blocks or flow) of those experiences.

Through conversation, we explore together what the classical 7 planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Saturn, and Jupiter) may speak of in terms of key life themes and experiences as outlined in your natal birth chart. Not all aspects of the natal chart are active all at once, so through the use of different astrological timing techniques we discuss what themes seem to be active now and what ones may be on the horizon.

I keep the scope of astrology close to heart. Astrology is a language with the potential to provide amazing insights into one’s life, but it carries with it limitation. A natal birth chart cannot outline the day you marry, have a baby, move to Texas, win the Nobel Peace Prize etc - but it can outline when common and broad human experiences that these topics fall under become highlighted or activated. Topics such as relationships, family, home, finances, work and achievements may be interpreted in a birth chart - but the exact HOW these areas are being experienced has to be gathered through a conversation between the astrologer and client.

Once life topics are established, the planets have a way of communicating the energetic nature of these experiences - will these areas most likely experience growth and flow or restriction and blocks? What else may these topics bring? Restlessness, unpredictability, periods of immense change, death and rebirth cycles? Times of clarity, or lack of, cathartic and other deeply emotional experiences, times of great physical, mental, emotional output? There are numerous ways these expressions could be experienced.

Once topics and the nature of their experience is established, we will finally look at the timing of these experiences. This is where astrology shines. How long may this challenging period last? Are there any areas of ease and growth on the horizon? Validating experiences and estimating timing of life’s events is one of astrology’s great gifts.
